Minister Scott Stewart MP, Minister for Resources
Minister Scott James Stewart is an Australian politician. He has been the Labor member for Townsville in the Queensland Legislative Assembly since February 2015. Minister Stewart was a high school principal and educator in the Townsville region. He was the principal of Pimlico State High School when he contested the seat of Townsville. During his time in education Minister Stewart established a boxing program, aimed at helping under-achieving indigenous students re-engage with schooling through sport. Minister Stewart and his wife Jackie moved to Townsville in 1999 to raise their three children. He is a volunteer with Townsville Rotary and sits on several committees including the North Queensland Stadium Activation Group, Community Aviation Consultation Group, CBD Taskforce, Regional Economic Development Sub-Committee, Palm Island Economic Development and Palm Island Liveability Project. Minister Stewart holds a Bachelor of Education and a master's degree from the Queensland University of Technology. On 12 November 2020 he was appointed Minister for Resources.
Amanda Lacaze, CEO and Managing Director, Lynas Rare Earths
Amanda Lacaze is CEO and Managing Director of Lynas Rare Earths. Lynas was established as an environmentally responsible producer of Rare Earth materials which are essential to future facing and green technologies, including electric vehicles, wind turbines and electronics. Appointed in June 2014, Amanda successfully led the company through a challenging turnaround and Lynas is now the world’s 2nd largest producer of separated Rare Earth materials and the only scale producer of these materials outside of China.
Lynas is uniquely positioned with its high-grade long life Mt Weld resource near Laverton, WA, a proven processing facility in Kuantan, Malaysia, and a well progressed growth plan including a Rare Earth Processing Facility project in Kalgoorlie, WA, and a proposed facility in the USA.
Amanda is a board member of the Minerals Council of Australia. She is also a member of Chief Executive Women and the AICD.
Tony Knight, Chief Government Geologist, Department of Resources Queensland
Tony Knight brings extensive breadth and depth of experience from across the Queensland mineral and energy resources sector to his current role as Queensland’s Chief Government Geologist. In his role he leads the Geological Survey of Queensland whose purpose is to help enable industry success in discovery and development of resources and attract new investment to the resources sector. Tony’s focus is to the future, working to help the Queensland resources sector navigate and find opportunity in the global and sector shifts underway ranging across energy, industry and sustainability.
Shaun McCarthy, Chief Executive Officer, Multicom Resources
Shaun is an accomplished Civil Engineer with over 15 years of experience across the mining and construction sectors. Having held senior positions in private and public mining companies over the past seven years, Shaun successfully helped guide QCoal’s Byerwen Coal Project through a rapid development to first coal, and before that, OZ Minerals Prominent Hill Project through a large-scale expansion, more than doubling the size of the open pit operation. Experience across full Project life-cycle from feasibility and approvals through to construction, commissioning and operations.
