Building a Creative Economy

Australia is one of the world’s best filming locations and destinations for post-production and visual effects.

The Creative economy is big business and South Australia is well placed to continue to attract a greater percentage of domestic and foreign production. This inward investment builds our local economy, not only directly with jobs in the screen industry but spending flows out of the sector into related industries and it exposes nascent film production to new production methods with large budget and technically complex feature films.

South Australia’s capacity to partner with international studios and deliver world-class productions is paramount to driving a future pipeline of work and it means having the right mix of skilled talent, state-of-the-art studios and VFX houses, leading equipment vendors, supportive domestic funding and federal screen tax incentives.

South Australia has been growing this film capability with an increased number of Australian and international features and TV series including “Storm Boy”, “Hotel Mumbai”, “I am Mother”, “Wolf Creek” and now “Mortal Kombat”.

The implementation of a post, digital and visual effects (PDV) tax offset meant our local VFX houses including Rising Sun, Resin and Kojo have worked on international blockbusters including X-Men Dark Phoenix and Tomb Raider; added to this international VFX studio Mill Film (Technicolor) opened its doors to 500+ VFX artists and technicians.

Hear from our speakers on the value of this sector to drive economic growth, attract a skilled and dynamic population and drive new technological infrastructure.
