Ariarne Titmus, Olympian

Tasmanian Born, Ariarne Titmus has quickly become the star in the Australian sporting scene. The recently crowned dual Olympic Champion stunningly handed the five-time Olympic Champion, Katie Ledecky her first Olympic defeat in both the 200m and 400m freestyle. In the lead up to Tokyo, the battle between Titmus and Ledecky had been billed as one the greatest race the sport has ever seen. Ariarne’s gold medal winning efforts garnered worldwide media attention and has set the scene for the Titmus-Ledecky rivalry to be revisited for years to come. Titmus has amassed several accolades and achievements throughout her international career. Her breakout 2018 season included multiple national titles, three Commonwealth Games gold meals and two silver medals at the Pan Pacific Championships. Titmus is the Commonwealth record holder in the women’s 200m and 400m freestyle. She also holds Australia records for the middle-distance treble – the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle. Titmus is only the second woman in history to swim sub 4 minutes in a regulation textile suit. Ariarne also holds the World Record for the 400m Short Course Freestyle. Known for her confident racing ability, tenacity and down-to-earth personality, Titmus isn’t shy of a challenge and has become an aspirational figure. Her influence extends beyond the pool as the boasts the highest engagement figures out of any Australian Swimmer. Ariarne juggles between training and studying for a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science degree. She is a keen foodie and is passionate about health and fitness. Titmus is looking to capitalize on her successful 2021 Olympic campaign and continue her rise in the sport as a global superstar.

Lakeisha Patterson, Para-Olympian

As successful a Para-swimmer as Lakeisha ‘Lucky’ Patterson is, it is sheer commitment – not luck – that has overseen her rise to the top of her sport. Lucky was first introduced to Paralympic sport at a Paralympics Australia Talent Search Day in 2012. It was there that she met three-time Paralympian Michael Anderson, who helped her to realise she had what it took to race alongside the world’s best. Launching her competitive career in 2013, Lucky received her first Australian cap – and a bronze medal to boot – at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. After she returned home from the 2015 World Championships with one gold, two silver and two bronze medals, She became the first Australian to be crowned champion at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, with gold in the women’s 400m freestyle S8 in a new world record time of 4:40:33, and alongside Ellie Cole, won the most number of medals for Australia with two gold, three silver and one bronze. The 2018 Commonwealth Games saw Lucky twice reach the top of the podium, and again in the women’s 400m freestyle S9 at the 2019 World Para-swimming Championships. At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, she defended her Paralympic crown in the women’s 400m freestyle S8 to become Paralympic champion once again. Outside the pool, Lucky is studying a Bachelor of Architectural Design at the University of Queensland
