Inaugural Chair of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA)
In the wake of the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry, hear from the head of the new organisation tasked partly with restoring community trust and confidence in the financial services sector.

About the Speaker
Helen Coonan is the inaugural Chair of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) the new one-stop-shop complaints handling body.
Ms Coonan is a former Senator in the Australian Parliament, a Cabinet Minister and Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate.
She has extensive experience in the financial services sector, having served as the Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer with portfolio oversight for tax, superannuation and insurance policy as well as oversight of the ATO and APRA.
After 15 years’ service to the Parliament, Ms Coonan stepped down in 2011 and moved into the corporate sector.
Her current appointments include non-executive directorships of Crown Resorts Limited and Snowy Hydro Limited. She is the Chair of Place Management NSW and Co-Chair of GRACosway Pty Limited. She chairs boutique fund manager Supervised Investments Australia Limited, is a member of the Advisory Council of JP Morgan, and was previously a member of the Board of Advice for Aon Australia.
Before entering politics, Helen had an extensive legal career spanning practice as a solicitor, partnership in a large commercial law firm, ten years as a commercial barrister and trained mediator of disputes, as well as practice as an Attorney in New York.
