David Hoey

President & Chief Executive Officer | Vaxxas

David Hoey has more than 35 years of executive-level experience in business development, licensing, strategic planning, and financing for technology companies. His experience spans the preclinical development of small molecule and biologic therapeutics, molecular diagnostics, and analytical instrumentation.

David has completed over $500 million in corporate partnering transactions and equity financings in Australia, the United States, Europe, and Japan and has secured extensive contracts for sponsored research with global pharma and philanthropic organisations, as well as the US Government.

David has been President and CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of Vaxxas since he joined the company in 2012. His contribution to the Australia and US alliance and Australian life science sector was recently recognised with the 2024 AmCham Alliance Award for Excellence in Biotechnology.

 

John Skinner

General Manager and Director | Cook Medical Australia

John Skinner is the General Manager and Director of Cook Medical Australia. Based in Brisbane, he is responsible for the local strategic direction and manufacturing operations, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality medical devices to key markets globally.

With over 20 years of experience in the medical device industry, John has a proven track record of leadership and innovation. Prior to his current role, he served as the Research and Development Manager at Cook, where he oversaw the development of new products in the areas of complex endovascular devices and reproductive health technologies.

Outside of Cook, John’s experience includes several years working at the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Canberra, where he led a team evaluating new medical device applications. This role provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory frameworks within Australia and Europe, as well as the challenges faced by those developing medical devices and the pathways of bringing those devices to market.
