2020 Young Persons' World Lecture Competition

The Western Australian branch of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) has announced the start of the 2020 Young Persons' World Lecture Competition (YPWLC) via Zoom, a cloud-based video conferencing service.

The 2020 Australian competition will be held between 4-6pm on Thursday 3rd September.

The competition has been running for over 20 years and is designed to support the improvement of presentation skills to the general public on complex issues from academia and industry.

Competitors are asked to create and present on a subject of their choice that is related to materials, minerals or mining and encompasses the broader field of engineering, science and technology.   

The competitors are judged on the quality of the abstract, structure of the lecture, standard of the presentation, visual aids and physical examples, technical content, ability to handle questions and timekeeping. Judging is carried out by academics and/or experienced professionals in the related industries.

The competition is open to anyone aged 28 or under (on 1st June 2020) who can present an interesting 15-minute lecture on their topic (materials, minerals, mining, packaging, clay technology or wood science and engineering).  
 
The WA winner will represent Western Australia in the 2020 Young Persons' Lecture Competition Australia final (via Zoom). All participants are invited to a VIP networking dinner with senior mining professionals and executives.

The Australian winner will represent Australia against other countries at the 2020 Young Persons' World Lecture Competition (also held via Zoom).
