As the 2024 US Election approaches, we are all watching with interest the most fascinating and dynamic election in recent history. Kamala Harris has announced her running mate, Tim Walz and her policies which may or may not land in lock-step with the former President. How will she fare when she debates Trump?
While Republicans and Democrats battle it out for the White House, the House, and the Senate, Australian leaders are wondering what the consequences of a Harris presidency, or second Trump term, will mean for the Alliance.

Hon Christopher Pyne - Executive Chairman, Pyne and Partners
Christopher served in the Australian House of Representatives from 1993-2019. During this time, he was in the Liberal Party Leadership Group for 10 years, Leader of the House of Representatives for six years, and served in Cabinet for six years. He was a Minister in the Howard, Abbott, Turnbull and Morrison Governments, holding the portfolios of Ageing, Education, Industry Innovation and Science, Defence Industry and Defence. Christopher is Executive Chairman of consulting firm Pyne and Partners, Chair of COTA Australia, Vision 2020, the Australia United Arab Emirates Business Council, the Advisory Board of munitions and weapons company, NIOA Group and the SA Governors Council of the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia. As well, he is a non Executive Director of Canberra based defence manufacturer, HighCom Ltd. He is an Industry Professor in the University of South Australia Business School. He is the author of two books - “A Letter to my Children” (2015) and “The Insider” (2020) and the pod cast Pyne Time. Christopher lives in Aldgate in South Australia and is married to Carolyn and is the father of Eleanor, Barnaby, Felix and Aurelia.

Dr Rodrigo Praino - Professor of Politics and Public Policy and Director, Jeff Bleich Centre
Dr Rodrigo Praino is Professor of Politics and Public Policy and Director of the Jeff Bleich Centre. He holds a PhD in Political Science and has received several prestigious fellowships, scholarships and awards, including a Fulbright Scholarship. In 2018 he became the first political scientist to win a Tall Poppy Science Award for excellence is scientific research and communication. Professor Praino is an expert in decision-making and political behaviour, conducting research on elections, voting, and how voters make decisions in a context of low-information. His publications in this area cover a wide range of issues, including the effect of political scandals and corruption, the political behaviour of young voters, the political representation of women, and the role of candidate physical appearance. Professor Praino is also one of few scholars in Australia engaged in research on space politics and space policy. He is particularly interested in understanding and analysing the importance of space assets for defence, economic development, international relations, and decision-making. He is a co-author of Power, State and Space: Conceptualizing, Measuring and Comparing Space Actors (Springer, 2023). Professor Praino’s research has been published by top peer-reviewed academic journals in the Social Sciences, and has attracted funding from various sources, including the Australian Research Council, SmartSat CRC, Defence, the Australian Space Agency, and UNICEF.

Mohan Koo - Co-founder & CTO, DTEX Systems
Mohan is widely recognised as a thought leader in cyber security. As Co-founder and CTO of DTEX, Mohan brings 20 years of experience building a global cyber security business from the ground up, moving from Adelaide to London to Silicon Valley. Backed by top tier Silicon Valley Venture Capital with over $100m raised, DTEX has been chosen as the front line of cyber defence by many Fortune 500 businesses, Government agencies and Defence organisations. After returning from the Bay Area to Adelaide in 2019, Mohan has played a pivotal role in maturing Australia’s cyber security ecosystem by driving stronger collaboration between Industry, Government and Academia – this effort has been acknowledged by Mohan’s acceptance of both the South Australian and National 2021 Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Pearcey Foundation, followed by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) ‘Digital Economy’ Award for strengthening economic ties between Australia and the US in 2022.

Hon Kim Beazley AC - Chair, Perth USAsia Centre Board
The Honourable Kim Beazley AC was the 33rd Governor of Western Australia (2018-2022). Prior to being installed as Governor, Mr Beazley dedicated almost three decades to a career in Federal Parliament, representing the WA seats of Brand and Swan. In 2009, Mr Beazley was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia for service to the Parliament of Australia through contributions to the development of government policies in relation to defence and international relations, and as an advocate for Indigenous people, and to the community. Mr Beazley was born in Perth, Western Australia. He completed a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts at the University of Western Australia. In 1973, he was awarded the Rhodes Scholarship for Western Australia and completed a Masters of Philosophy at Oxford University. Mr Beazley was a Minister in the Hawke and Keating Labor Governments (1983-1996) holding, at various times, the portfolios of Defence, Finance, Transport and Communications, Employment Education and Training, Aviation, and Special Minister of State. From 1995 to 1996, Mr Beazley was Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the Australian Labor Party and Leader of the Opposition from 1996 to 2001, and 2005 to 2006. Mr Beazley served on parliamentary committees, including the Joint Intelligence Committee and the Joint Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee. After his retirement from politics in 2007, Mr Beazley was appointed Winthrop Professor in the Department of Politics and International Relations at The University of Western Australia. In July 2008 he was appointed Chancellor of the Australian National University, a position he held until December 2009. Mr Beazley took up an appointment as Ambassador to the United States of America in February 2010. He served as Ambassador until January 2016. Mr Beazley is currently Chair of the Perth USAsia Centre Board, Board Member of Luerssen Australia, Senior Distinguished Fellow of the Australian Strategic Policy Intitute, Advisor to Lockheed Martin Australia, Chair of the Council for the Australian War Memorial and Advisor to TG & Associates.

Hon Arthur Sinodinos AO - Partner and Chair of the Australia Practice, The Asia Group
The Hon. Arthur Sinodinos AO is Partner and Chair of TAG’s Australia Practice and a leading expert on Australian public policy and politics who brings a wealth of public and private sector experience spanning national security, industry innovation, economic policy, and banking. Ambassador Sinodinos is responsible for developing and executing the firm’s business strategy in Australia and supporting C-Suite executives from across TAG’s geographic portfolio to manage evolving risks and seize emerging growth opportunities. Ambassador Sinodinos most recently served as Australian Ambassador to the United States, where he was closely involved in Australia’s negotiations related to AUKUS, the Quad, and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework. Ambassador Sinodinos previously worked as Australia’s Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science and was a Senator for New South Wales in the Australian Parliament from 2011 to 2019. During his parliamentary career, he also held other key roles in and outside Cabinet, including Cabinet Secretary and Assistant Treasurer. Over a career spanning four decades, Ambassador Sinodinos has held a number of influential positions in public service. On the election of the Hon. John Howard AC as Prime Minister of Australia in 1996, Ambassador Sinodinos was appointed the Prime Minister’s Senior Economic Adviser and in 1997, the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, a position he held for nine years. Between 1987-1989 and 1995-1996 Ambassador Sinodinos also served as Senior Economic Adviser to Mr Howard while in opposition. He started his Australian Public Service career in 1979, rising to the Senior Executive Service in the Department of the Treasury. In 2006, Ambassador Sinodinos left government to work with Goldman Sachs JBWere, followed by the National Australia Bank and various corporate appointments. In 2008, Ambassador Sinodinos was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his service to politics through the executive function of government, to the development of economic policy and reform, and to the Greek community. In 2019, he was made a Distinguished Fellow of the Australia & New Zealand School of Government in recognition of his promotion of public sector leadership. Ambassador Sinodinos lives in Washington with his wife Elizabeth, and their three children.

John Olsen AO - Chairman, Adelaide Football Club
Mr John Olsen AO was appointed Chairman of the Adelaide Football Club in 2020. Previously he spent 7 years in the United States as Consul General in Los Angeles 2002-6, and New York 2006-9, during which he pioneered G-Day USA. Prior to his diplomatic postings he was Premier of South Australia 1996-2001. He has previously served as: Chairman and CEO if the Australian American Association Ltd., Chairman of the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority, Chairman of the Perth US-Asia Centre at the University of Western Australia.

Haley Bull - White House Correspondent, Scripps News
Haley Bull is a correspondent based in Washington, D.C. where she covers the White House and politics. She previously was based in Tampa where she covered national general assignment stories, after working for Scripps station WFTS. Haley also spent time as a reporter in Indianapolis and Southeast Texas. She’s originally from Cincinnati and is a University of Maryland graduate, where she studied journalism and government and politics.

Serena Marshall - White House Correspondent, Scripps News
Serena Marshall serves as White House Correspondent for Scripps News. In this role, she reports on the Biden Administration and the 2024 presidential race, covering both the then Biden, now Harris-campaign from the primaries through major events, including the presidential debates and the conventions. Prior to joining Scripps, she worked as a freelance correspondent based in Washington, reporting for CBS News, WUSA and Rolling Stone. She is also the creator and host of Track the Vax, a two-season podcast by Everyday Health and MedPage Today focused on the race for a COVID-19 vaccine; and served as an adjunct professor in the College of Journalism at the University of Florida. An award-winning broadcast news correspondent, Serena covered the White House and Capitol Hill for ABC News as a correspondent, producer, and reporter. Her reporting has included the first impeachment trial of President Trump, U.S. immigration both domestically and from the northern triangle, and she helped lead the team that broke the restoration of diplomatic ties between the U.S. and Cuba, which won the Merriam-Smith award for outstanding coverage. During her time as a reporter/producer for ABC News, she was also part of the breaking news team that won an Edward R. Murrow for their coverage of the Baltimore Riots, and a Peabody for their coverage of Superstorm Sandy: “The Perfect Storm.” Serena holds a master’s degree in health communication from the University of Florida and a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism - News Reporting also from Florida. As a mother of two (perfect) young girls, her free time is limited to playing make-believe and hosting tea-parties. But also soaking up the snuggles, attempting some at home DIY projects, yoga, and traveling.

Selga Tucker - Digital Media and Communications Specialist, Springboard Socials
Selga Tucker is an award-winning broadcast journalist and digital communications expert. She has worked in regional, metropolitan and international newsrooms, including the BBC in London. Selga was a senior reporter for Nine News in Adelaide, covering the police and court rounds. Twice, she was awarded Best Television News Report in the South Australian Media Awards and in 2009 she was a finalist in the Best Young Journalist category. She reported on high profile stories that involved outlaw motorcycle gangs, murder trials and catastrophic weather events. Selga joined the BBC in the lead up to the 2012 London Olympic Games. She worked as a producer on many bulletins and was responsible for booking guest speakers during the coverage of the Olympic Games. Selga remained at the BBC for a further 8 months reporting for BBC’s World News Service and producing stories for correspondents around the world. On her return to Australia in 2013, Selga began her career in politics as a communications adviser to the Hon Steven Marshall. She worked on numerous state and federal election campaigns and was part of the Liberal Party’s historic 2018 win, which saw Steven Marshall become the 46th Premier of South Australia. Selga headed up the Premier’s Digital Media Team and managed his social media accounts and digital platforms. Her team was pivotal in the dissemination of information during the Coronavirus outbreak, implementing daily live updates across the Premier’s social media accounts. In 2022 Selga joined the Liberal Party SA Division as a Communications, Marketing and Events Coordinator whilst also launching her own digital media and communications consulting business, Springboard Socials. She has helped clients execute national awareness and education campaigns, rebranding, digital advertising and training programs. She welcomed her third daughter in late 2023 and is looking forward to shifting the focus back on her business in 2025.
