The Board of Directors of AmCham Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of several new Chairs and Vice Chairs of the state-based Councils of Governors, with further announcements coming soon.
Governors are appointed by the Board for three-year terms. We have almost 100 Governors across the country who are senior executives from AmCham member companies selected for their considerable experience and expertise. They offer advice to the Board and Managers on matters and issues facing each state where AmCham operates. Appointing Chairs and Vice Chairs is a new initiative aimed at bringing a renewed energy and focus to the Councils, which in turn will provide more and better access to opportunity for all AmCham members.

BHP awards world's first LNG-fuelled Newcastlemax bulk carrier tender to reduce emissions
BHP
BHP has awarded the world’s first LNG-fuelled Newcastlemax bulk carrier tender, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by more than 30 per cent per voyage.
Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has been awarded the five-year time charter contract for five LNG-fuelled Newcastlemax bulk carriers to carry iron ore between Western Australia and China from 2022.
The LNG bunkering supply contract is expected to be awarded in October, 2020.
BHP Chief Commercial Officer, Vandita Pant, said the LNG-fuelled vessels would virtually eliminate SOx (sulphur oxide) emissions and significantly reduce CO2 and NOx emissions.
"As one of the largest dry bulk charterers in the world BHP recognises the role we play in working with our suppliers and customers to drive actionable reductions in GHG emissions across the maritime supply chain", Ms Pant said.
"The tender marks a progressive shift for BHP and the broader mining and shipping industry and is a significant step toward lowering GHG emissions in the 1.5 billion tonne iron ore seaborne market".
"We expect the introduction of LNG-fuelled vessels will result in more than 30 per cent lower CO2-e emissions on a per voyage basis compared to conventional fuel along the Western Australia to China route".
BHP released the LNG-fuelled bulk carrier tender in July 2019 and subsequently completed a rigorous due-diligence process to identify and short list tenderers. Safety, technical and economic factors, as well as a clear demonstration to make a sustainable positive change for the industry, were among the stringent criteria.

A Jumbo Task: How Cargo Chapters come together
C.H. Robinson
|
Cathay Pacific Cargo fulfils C.H. Robinson’s request for freighter charters to deliver urgent PPE supplies to Australia.
Booking your own Boeing 747 freighter can be a mammoth undertaking – it’s a jumbo jet, after all, and it takes a lot to fill one up. While Cathay Pacific Cargo runs a full freighter schedule, it does sometimes have the capacity to offer its aircraft to the charter market for customers who have big-volume, outsized or very urgent shipments that need to go somewhere fast, and possibly off the network.

GE, TAE begin advanced engine work for US Navy in Australia
GE Aviation
|
GE Aviation and TAE Aerospace will support advanced engine work in Australia for the United States Navy’s fleet of F414 engines.
Under the GE Total Logistics Support program, the US Navy’s F414 engines will receive prime logistics support in Australia, with selected repairs to be carried out on engine components using the world-class expertise of GE and its partner, Queensland-based TAE Aerospace.
While the US Navy traditionally conducts its depot repair work at facilities in the US in partnership with GE, the success of GE and TAE in supporting the RAAF F414 fleet over the past decade encouraged consideration of a program based in Australia. Since 2011, program service and availability requirements were met or exceeded, as measured on a monthly basis.

Immigration and Australia's road to recovery post-pandemic
Fragomen
|
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a variety of travel bans and restrictions, variations in how visas are processed and the broader engagement by government on what travel and policy will be, post-covid.
Fragomen Australia recently surveyed our client base to further understand the concerns and issues of organisations operating in Australia and to aid policymakers in making positive decisions for an effective recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic. Fragomen’s long-standing Government Relations practice will discuss the findings with government, along with other related organisations, to help support business.
Our worldwide team of professionals are frequently consulted by governments for expert advice on immigration policy and the formation of immigration laws, providing proactive policy advice. Our ability to detect, monitor and analyse trends early on empowers our clients to adapt to immigration processes quickly, and typically in advance of legislative, regulatory and rule-making changes. This distinct skillset is crucial, given how quickly immigration rules and policies shift in general, and especially in consideration of the rapid changes taking place during the current COVID-19 global health crisis.
