October 2018
Dear %%First Name%%,

AmCham regularly visits state capitals, Canberra, and Washington, DC, to engage with leaders on key issues affecting two-way trade and investment. This month we took four of our committees – Health, Defence, Innovation and Trade and Government – to engage with decision makers in the nation’s capital. Company representatives from two dozen firms accompanied Amie O’Mahony and me to call on both the new ministry and the shadow cabinet. We were invited to a reception in Parliament House one night and one at the US Ambassador’s residence the next night.

Our AmCham committees will again visit Canberra in March (pending the timing of the Federal election). Please let us know if you would like to join us. We will also again provide an opportunity to AmCham members to join me on the Washington Doorknock 14-18 July. This is a very special opportunity to meet high-ranking officials from the administration, senators and congressmen, think tank experts, pollsters, Australian Embassy officials, and many others. We will be joined by Directors and company representatives from AmChams all around the Asia-Pacific.

In the past month we also welcomed our counterparts from AmCham New Zealand. Executive Director Mike Hearn brought a dozen of his board members to Sydney to engage in a full day of meetings with the AmCham Australia Board. We were delighted to have NZ Minister for Trade David Parker with us as well as Australian Assistant Minister for Trade Mark Coulton. And we also took the opportunity of having everyone together to thank John Borghetti AO for his service to the Chamber as Chairman of the QLD Council of Governors over the past eight years.

This month we are gearing up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. AmCham Chairman Maureen Dougherty hosted a lunch with former NASA astronaut Pam Melroy, who also spoke at AmCham Adelaide earlier this year. And next month, I will lead a delegation of Australian businesses to the US to explore the American space industry. We will get you behind the scenes at Johnson Space Center, SpaceCom, and many special company presentations. The deadline to join this delegation has been extended to 25 October, so please click here to book in now if you are interested.

Looking ahead, be sure to book your place at AmCham’s first Diversity and Inclusion Conference on gender balance. Presented by Coca-Cola, with support from several other AmCham member companies, this conference will showcase data on AmCham member companies’ gender balance in their leadership. It will also start a discussion between large US-based multinational corporations and smaller Australian businesses. I’m pleased to report that new AmCham member McKinsey is working closely with us on the panel and workshops.

We look forward to seeing you soon, and thank you for your support,

April Palmerlee, Chief Executive Officer
