AmCham is delighted to announce that due to popular demand and in anticipation of a very busy future in the US-Australia relationship, we have established a permanent and powerful presence in our nation’s capital.
The inaugural ACT General Manager, Sheryle Moon, opened the debut ACT cohort of the AmCham Global Leadership Academy at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
A few days later, AmCham hosted a boardroom
breakfast, and the first Academy speaker, Peter Jennings, spoke to AmCham future leaders. If you would like to be added to the mailing list for upcoming Canberra AmCham events, please email us here.

AmCham Australia condemns Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine. We stand with AmCham national partners,
KPMG and Norton Rose Fulbright, and the many other AmCham members who have taken a stand on behalf of the people of Ukraine.
The world is undergoing the most significant geostrategic shift in our lifetimes, and we are living through dramatic changes in the nexus between global economy and the rules-based international order. Australian businesses are finding they are not impervious to the ramifications of strategic decisions on the other side of the world.
As Prime Minister Morrison said, “Strong national security and genuine economic security go hand-in-hand. They are two sides of the same coin.”
AmCham is pleased to have been able to bring excellent speakers and experts to our members to delve into these pressing geostrategic issues:
...Minister for Defence Peter Dutton in Brisbane
...CEO of RAND Corporation Michael D. Rich in Canberra
...Fourth President of Croatia (2015-2020) Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic in Sydney

It was gratifying to be back in real
life with over 250 members and their guests in Sydney and Melbourne for International Women’s Day. There’s even more to come, with upcoming events including expert panels on Energy, Manufacturing, and FinTech,
as well as a keynote address from Premier of Victoria Dan Andrews on the future of Victoria's international business and trade relationships.
I hope to see you there.
Kind regards,
|

This month, AmCham and the wider Australian community lost a friend and leader, Senator Kimberley Kitching.
Among her many parliamentary responsibilities and service to Victoria and her country, Senator Kitching served as the Co-Chair of the Australia-US Parliamentary Friendship Group, and was always willing to share her insight and expertise with AmCham.
Senator Kitching proudly recognised, fiercely protected, and strongly advocated for the Australia-United States alliance, and its integral role in our national security and economic prosperity.
It is with the utmost respect and profound sorrow that we farewell Senator Kitching. We will miss her intellect, passion, and warmth. AmCham staff and members send our thoughts and prayers to her family, friends, and colleagues.

Adobe is in the spotlight
in this edition of the CEO column for an interview on Skill Finder - the digital microskills platform taking Australia by storm.
Global technology giants including Adobe, Google, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft came together to bring this project to life.
In just 18 months, over 100,000 Australians have used Skill Finder to upskill and reskill across 3,000 online courses. AmCham sat down with Suzanne Steele to find out what's next for Skill Finder.

Suzanne Steele
Vice President and Managing Director
Adobe
On Micro Skills
"Think of a micro-skill as acquiring a very specific and pragmatic capability. For Skill Finder, that could be understanding the basics of using a piece of software, editing your first photo in Adobe Photoshop or learning about Analytics fundamentals for businesses...
A new technology system might be introduced one day, and you are expected to learn how to use it the next."
On Supporting Women
"Since November 2020, we have seen 12% more enrolments among women when compared to their male peers, equating to an extra 11,000 users... For us, this sends a clear signal that women are taking control of their own professional development and upskilling in the areas where demand is highest."
On Industry Cooperation
"One of the most incredible parts of developing Skill Finder in the earlier stages was just how quickly competitive differences were set aside in pursuit of the greater goal. This made way for the collaboration and creativity around problem-solving that’s in the sector’s DNA."
