Meet the Minister with the Hon. Niall Blair MLC
Minister for Trade and Industry, Minister for Primary Industries and Minister for Regional Water
Niall Blair is the NSW Minister for Primary Industries since 2015, as well as the Minister for Trade and industry and the Minister for Regional Water since January 2017. Blair’s role as the Minister for Primary industries and the Minister for Regional Water Regional Water is responsible for the administration and development for agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture and biosecurity in NSW. As former Party Chairman and Leader of the Nationals in the Legislative Council, Minister Blair is considered a key person to watch in the NSW Nationals Party.
Blair is originally from Goulburn and graduated from Hawkesbury Agricultural College with a Bachelor of Horticultural Science and graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science from University of Western Sydney in 1997. He started as a tree management officer with Marrickville Council from 1998-1999 and manager of parks and recreation for Leeton Shire form 1999 until 2005. He later attained a masters in occupational health and safety from the University of Newcastle in 2005 while subsequently working as a manager of technical training for integral Energy form 2005 until 2006. He founded Moss Vale workplace safety consultancy, Admire Workplace Safety, in 2006 and was its CEO until his election to parliament in 2011.
Niall is a strong advocate of the right to farm and has a particular interest in food production and security.
When he does have some time away from the halls of Parliament, Niall enjoys rugby and fly fishing. In the past few years, he has even found the time, stamina and persistence to complete three Ironman triathlons.
